Rex has joined forces with Virgin Australia to provide regional travellers with a
convenient and cost effective method of flying around the country. Passengers
flying on Rex from regional centres to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns
and Perth will be
able to remain in the same terminal and connect smoothly to their Virgin Australia
destination or vice versa, without the hassle of handling their own bags in
between.
 |
What must I do to make sure I can have my baggage transferred to my connecting Virgin Australia flight?
You must be checked in at your regional airport of departure no later than 20 minutes before the scheduled departure time of your Rex flight (NSW, SA, TAS, VIC
and WA), 30 minutes for regional Queensland airports, and 60 minutes for Burketown and you must produce your Virgin Australia itinerary which shows details of your connecting flight and also show your photo ID.
What is the time between my Rex flight and my Virgin Australia service?
The minimum connection time (MCT) is 60 minutes between the
scheduled arrival of the first flight and the scheduled time of departure of
the second flight.
What happens to my luggage and where do I get my boarding passes?
When you arrive at your port of origin you will be asked if
you have a connecting flight with Rex / Virgin Australia. If the answer is yes and
you have left at least 60 minutes between connecting flights then your luggage
can be checked straight through to your final destination. You will receive a
boarding pass for your first flight but not your second. Therefore when you
arrive at your transit port you will still have to go to the check-in counter
of your next flight to obtain a boarding pass for that flight. If it is a
Virgin Australia flight you can get your boarding pass from the Virgin Australia Express
check-in counter.
|
Can I use Web Check-in if I am connecting from/with a Virgin Australia flight with check-through baggage?
No, this feature is NOT currently available. Standard airport check-in is required for both Rex and Virgin Australia sectors if travelling with checked baggage that requires transfer between airlines. We are unable to process the baggage tranship if a passenger has completed web check-in for either their Rex or Virgin Australia flight. Please note there is a 60-minute minimum connecting time between Rex & Virgin Australia.
What are the ports where I connect with Virgin Australia?
The six shared ports that Rex operates with Virgin Australia are Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane,
Cairns and Perth. It is through these six ports that we are able to offer the Rex / Virgin Australia through checked baggage space. A complete list of sectors that Virgin Australia operate can be viewed on the destinations section of Virgin Australia website.
What if I have special needs? (Including medical conditions / requirements, travelling with pets or booking a child under 12 to travel
alone. A list of special requirements can be viewed here.)
For bookings regarding passengers with special needs you must
contact Rex on 13 17 13 to discuss if your baggage can be transferred, as not all special requirements can be catered for, such as those indicated in the questions below.
Can I book my child to travel alone on a Rex / Virgin Australia connection?
No, children under 12 who travel alone are classed as
unaccompanied minors, and special conditions apply to their travel. These
special conditions mean that unaccompanied minors cannot travel on a Rex /
Virgin Australia connection.
Can I book my pet on a Rex / Virgin Australia connection?
No, due to the transit time between flights pets cannot be
accepted for travel on a Rex / Virgin Australia connection.
Will guests taking excess baggage be charged fees from both carriers?
Excess baggage fees and allowances from each airline will
apply.
